ORGANIZATION’S PURPOSE AND ACTIVITIES
East Galway & Midlands Cancer Support provides psychological, emotional, and practical support for people living with cancer, their families and friends.
The Centre aims to address the needs of its clients, whatever those needs may be, in a warm, safe, welcoming, and confidential way. We can achieve this because many of our volunteers have been through similar experiences and as a result are empathetic to those currently battling with cancer.
We have numbers of counsellors who offer 1:1 counselling sessions as well as a wide range of complimentary therapists working with us on a day-to-day basis and providing the following complementary therapies including,
- Reiki
- Bio Energy
- Healing Touch
- Reflexology
- Oncology Reflexology
- Oncology Massage
- Foot Health Therapy
EGM Cancer Support also offer:
- Manual Lymph Drainage
- Emsella Chair (Incontinence Treatment)
- Infrared Therapy
- Yoga / Meditation / Fitness Classes
- Nutritionist
- Activator Poles Walking Programme
We provide a network of Support Groups: Breast Cancer, Prostate, and Gynae oncology. Groups meet monthly.
We offer CLIMB® for children aged 5-12 who are experiencing the impact of a cancer diagnosis of the child’s parent, brother or sister, member of extended family or another significant adult. We offer Writing for life®.
We also offer Thrive to Survive Programme to lessen emotional, physical, and financial burden on the survivor.
Our Minibus brings cancer patients to hospital for radiotherapy treatment. The bus operates from the Centre Monday to Friday.
All listed services are free of charge for our clients.

FUTURE PLANS
We want to continue meeting the unmet needs of cancer patients and their families. We want to continue to build a good working relationship with local hospitals and we also aim to continue to be involved in research through ECO Europe, Cancer Patients Europe, Independent Cancer Patient Voice (ICPV),AICI, NCCP, Can React Programme by Dr Ananya Gupta NUIG and Ruth O’Dea” Exploring the lived experience of Breast Cancer survivors social participation during and after treatment.
We will continue health promotion being involved in campaigns of Let’s Talk Prostate Cancer (LTPC), PPI group of the Irish Society of Gynaecological Oncology, HPV Action Group Ireland & Europe, Sexual Medicine Ireland, Tobacco Prevention & Cessation support for cancer patients in Europe, Woman’s Health Initiative Ireland.
